  • By the end of grade 3, know from memory all products of two one-digit numbers.
  • Use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays, and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
  • Fluently add and subtract within 1,000 using strategies and algorithms (the algorithm is the procedure for adding and subtracting you learned in school).
  • Tell and write time to the nearest minute and solve problems involving addition and subtraction of time in minutes.
  • Understand a fraction is part of a whole unit.

Science

  • Earth and Space Science: Explain that stars can differ by size, brightness, and distance. Identify the Sun as the star closest to Earth and that it emits energy in the form of heat and light. Gravity as a force that can be overcome.
  • Life Science: Describe structures in plants and their role in food production. Investigate how plants react to stimuli such as heat, light, and gravity. Animal classification (mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, arthropods, vertebrates and invertebrates). Classify flowering and nonflowering plants. Describe how animals and plants respond to changing seasons.
  • Physical Science: Measure and compare temperature, mass, and volume of solids and liquids. Compare materials based on properties such as color, texture, and hardness. Describe how water changes state and use scientific terms such as melting, freezing, evaporation and condensation. Identify basic forms of energy such as heat, light, sound, electrical and mechanical. Demonstrate how light moves in a straight line and that it can be reflected, refracted and absorbed.

Social Studies
